Universal Broadband Fund: Submitted Comprehensive Infrastructure Design & Application:

The Blackfoot Tech Council worked with telecommunications engineers and logical network planners to develop a blueprint for major internet upgrades for Siksika Nation.

The Blackfoot Tech Council has been raising capital to bring high-speed broadband internet to every single home, business, facility on Siksika Nation, and become one of Canada’s first, First Nation-owned and operated fiber-to-the-premises networks. Infrastructure upgrades will include a mix of wireless and wired/fiber solutions, for comprehensive coverage of Siksika Nation. SiksikaTel’s existing wireless towers are incorporated into the network design as they are ideally located for Siksika’s topography and population distribution.

Siksika Nation IT Training & Capacity Building Project:

As of September 2023, the Blackfoot Tech Council has offered training and mentorship in partnership with Computing Technology Industry Association (“CompTIA”) for:

  • 36 participants (Siksika Nation community members – successful program applicants) graduated with IT Fundamentals certificates, and then had option to be placed in practicums for hands-on experience with departments across Siksika
